Paving, Painting and Posts

Image
This week has been fairly quiet.  Although the concrete set very quickly there is a wait time before we can lay the tiles. The painters have been working inside, finishing off the bedrooms and staircase. While outside the paving and fences have been going up. It was a little surprise to me when we discovered the paving slabs were bright orange.....  I'm going to blame it on 2020 and my inability to go visit the shops.  I went online and purchased this tile. Which looks perfectly normal and inoffensive. However on the ground.   Wow, that's orange.  In defence of my choice, it only seems to get really orange when it is wet.  It will probably dull with age and dirt and actually is quite nice once you get used to it. The fences are possibly more orange.  But I think they might also dull with age. Inside there is painting and everything is white. And to add some excitement,  here is a cute cat wrestling video.

Concrete glorious concrete

This week's excitement is focused on the pouring of the concrete. The underfloor heating was secured by end of day Wednesday.   And Thursday my house was filled with a gooey mess. With inside being occupied with muck.  The work focus moved to the outside, with paving and fencing. By Saturday, the slab is walkable.  It still needs a while to cure, and they say they can't start the tiling till the 1st.  It's nice to have a floor.

Autumn

Image
It's Autumn and a little over a  month to move in date. Things at the house are moving along, there is more paint, the lights work and the bathrooms are mostly fitted out. The super curvy bath is in.. the builders are keeping the old toilet though.... I suspect they are being considerate and don't want to use our nice new one. There is a shower over the super curvy bath and although you cannot see it, we have a drain in the floor. There has been drama.  We had a really rainy blowy weekend last weekend.  Unfortunately there was a leak in the loft.  The builders have investigated and found the wrong flashing was used around the window.  The plaster in the grand room is done and the plumbing for taps and heaters has been run along the floor all over. Apparently there are too many specialist people in the house working on different things, and the labourers were getting bored.  So... They have been breaking up concrete to make room and hard core for our paving. You can see the bro

Wow that really looks like a bathroom

This week has been all about painting, plastering and tiling.  The loft and central bathrooms have been tiled, and they fitted the sinks and the upstairs toilet. It is not fully operational yet but looking good. Loft bathroom 1st floor bathroom The builders sink has a new base.  The actually plumbed this tap so it works. Plasterboard and plaster in the Grand room The floor of the grand room was covered in Sand then this insulation. It is now covered again in plastic sheeting. My office has plasterboard And this is our new hot water cylinder. I think there was some careful work done, so it would fit. We shouldn't be running out of  hot water. This is Mallow (as in Marshmallow) because he is white and pink and very sweet. Compared to Lion he is tiny and will probably not grow to be that big.  He is a lap cat and likes to sleep on people.
