Walls

Image
Building is proceeding quickly and walls at the side are going up.  And the last job of the digger was to dig a ditch through our pile of wood chip to ready the trench for the power to the shed.

Site Makeover

With the scaffolding down we can see the changes to the house better.  The builders have taken the opportunity to do more digging and build the foundations now that the drain pipes are sorted. And that big pile of rubble disappeared overnight. And then ....

Sewage drama and other holes

Image
The digger arrived this week. It is a cute little thing on little tractor treads. The builders proceeded to start digging holes for the foundation of the side extension.  Unfortunately during this, a sewage pipe got cracked. This in itself is not terrible.  But it then started leaking water all over.  Apparently the pipe is supposed to be mostly empty with all the black water drained into the sewers. So Thames Water was called and they came out promptly.   They found the manhole on our property and fortunately it was just to the left of all the bricks that had been stacked in the back garden. They found the blockage and the issue was resolved in a day.  The new drain has been built.  It was in the plan to move that anyway and concrete has been poured for  foundations.  Not just that but there are now bricks and the start of a wall.

Window Drama

Image
The windows are fitted and secured with expanding goo.  Green expanding goo even. But When I saw the front windows I knew they were wrong.  Unfortunately there was some confusion in the design and we approved them during that time when I couldn't look for wanting all the windows to open.  See the difference with the surrounding houses.  Sigh.  The windows are being redone which is causing a little anguish and delaying the scaffolding coming down.
