First impressions

 On first impressions on entering the house was "oh my god what have I bought".

 It has subsequently grown on me and I don't see hideously coloured walls, the dirty ripped paper in the kitchen or the worn through shag carpets.
Yes they are all still there  ( as well as the boiler in the bedroom what were they thinking). 

But it is my house now and it just needs some love.

Fences gates and underfloor heating

 We got to experience the underfloor heating today.  The weather has turned a bit ick as usually happens in autumn.  There has been blowy rain, and a bit more rain and the temperature is now in the low teens. With all the garden work that is happening with fences, there is a lot of mud. This mud got tracked through the house, making the slab quite muddy.   But a few days ago it all got cleaned up, and I think the garden and fence workman have been locked out of the house because of the muddy feet.  Anyway, because the slab was too cold, it was not setting fast enough, and is now being gently warmed by the underfloor heating.  So when we went through the house today ( taking off our shoes because.. mud)  I got to feel the warm concrete under my toes.   The painting in the grand room looks mostly done and it is looking a lot brighter. Plaster makes the rooms look finer

The plastering is complete in the upstairs and it looks fine.  The last of the "orange" is gone and they are now working on door frames and skirting boards. Also more of the roof for the grand room. The undertile paper is up and the edging around the top of the walls. The tiles have arrived, both roof and bathroom. They removed the last line of bricks from the doors.  The Door company has been around and told the builders the necessary size of the opening.  This is where they have boxed and poured some concrete so it comes to halfway up the brick.

Sewage drama and other holes

The digger arrived this week. It is a cute little thing on little tractor treads. The builders proceeded to start digging holes for the foundation of the side extension.  Unfortunately during this, a sewage pipe got cracked. This in itself is not terrible.  But it then started leaking water all over.  Apparently the pipe is supposed to be mostly empty with all the black water drained into the sewers. So Thames Water was called and they came out promptly.   They found the manhole on our property and fortunately it was just to the left of all the bricks that had been stacked in the back garden. They found the blockage and the issue was resolved in a day.  The new drain has been built.  It was in the plan to move that anyway and concrete has been poured for  foundations.  Not just that but there are now bricks and the start of a wall.
